Dozens of arrests, 2 police officers injured after night of violence in the Loop

CHICAGO (CBS) – Several arrests were made and two officers were injured after large crowds gathered in the Loop on Saturday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., crowds gathered in Millennium Park, overtaking the streets and disrupting traffic.

During the chaos, a A 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Millennium Park. The teenager was shot in the chest around 7.30pm as rowdy crowds of youngsters converged on the town centre.

Hours later, two men, aged 18 to 20, were shot dead at around 11:41 p.m. while walking with a group of people when two young men fired shots into the group.

Police said following the chaos, 26 teenagers and four adults were arrested and six curfews were cited. In addition, seven firearms were recovered and five arrests were made. Two police officers were also injured in the violence.
