Downing Street was ‘infested with fleas,’ says Liz Truss in new memoir – POLITICO
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s dog, Dilyn, may have been the cause of the germs, but there was “no conclusive evidence”, Truss said.
Truss also revealed that although she ordered furniture for the residence, she and her family were “evicted before they could deliver it.”
Truss attacks the British financial establishment in his book, calling the Treasury, the Bank of England and the Office for Budget Responsibility a “three-headed hydra” who “wanted to hold on as tightly as possible to European law”. She also accused the three institutions of being “pro-China”.
Truss saw his premiership cut short after a disastrous mini-budget in September 2022 sparked a crisis in the UK Gilts market.
Truss also attacked former foreign secretary Dominic Raab, with whom she shared a timeshare country residence after replacing him in the role. “It was like an excited student roommate. I would arrive for the weekend and find protein shakes labeled ‘Raab’ in the fridge,” she wrote.
The former Prime Minister also revealed that she had confused French First Lady Brigitte Macron with American First Lady Jill Biden during the 2022 UN General Assembly.
In a leaked copy of the book obtained by the Guardian, Truss says her husband predicted his bid for the UK’s top job would “end in tears”.
