Dothan Police search for missing teenager

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) – The search is ongoing for a Dothan teenager who has been missing since Sunday. Her family is desperate for help finding their daughter, who has not been seen for four days.

It was last Sunday that Dino Johnson and his family were preparing for Palm Sunday services when they realized their daughter and sister, 17-year-old Melissa Valenta Johnson, had gone missing.

“We all started wondering immediately where she was, what happened to her, we started looking for her and looking for her at the store, asking anyone eventually,” Johnson said.

It was then that the family called Dothan Police Department and police say Melissa was last seen at her family home which also operates as a palm reading business in the block 1900 South Oats Street.

Her family believe she left the residence early Sunday morning between 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Johnson is described as a 5’07” tall female. She weighs around 120 pounds and has dark brown hair and hazel eyes.

“We are very concerned for her, we are asking anyone for help if they have seen anything or know anything to provide information,” Johnson said. “We really miss our princess and just want her to come home.”

Police say she may be with a man named Michael Costello. They don’t believe Melissa is in any danger right now.

However, her family thinks she is being brainwashed by the person she is with. According to Johnson, he received a phone call from Melissa, where he said she told him she was in Texas.

“She’s never done anything like this, I believe she’s taught personally, she’s in the wrong business right now and we just need some help,” Johnson said.

And no matter the situation, the family has this message for their daughter Melissa, whom they call Princess.

“Baby, I don’t care, I just want you home, I just want to make sure you’re home and safe, we love you so much,” Johnson pleaded. “No matter what your home is, it’s where you belong and we want
you go back home.

Even though the family was told that Melissa was in Texas, they don’t know how true that is. The family just wants to know that Melissa is safe and coming home.

If you have any information on Melissa’s whereabouts or who she may be with, please call Dothan Police at (334) 793-0215 or (334) 615-3632.

Of course, stick with WDHN as we continue to follow this story.
