Donald Trump’s 2024 candidacy will ‘certainly help’ Democrats, strategist says

Donald Trump running for president again in 2024 would be a bigger boon for Democrats than meets the eye, according to at least one political analyst.

Although the former president has not made any official announcement at this time, Trump is expected to seek a second term in the Oval Office since it was confirmed that he failed to win re-election. against President Joe Biden in 2020. Despite growing rivalry from Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the former president remains the frontrunner for the next GOP nomination among hypothetical candidates.

Speaking on the subject during an appearance on MSNBC The Sunday show Political analyst Adrienne Elrod told host Jonathan Capehart on Sunday that Trump’s 2024 candidacy would be positive for Democrats.

“People are going to get Donald Trump fatigue,” Elrod explained. “Especially those major independent swing voters. That will ultimately decide 2024.”

Speaking at a rally in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday night, Trump strongly hinted to attendees that he was likely to run for president another time. That clue came during a screed against alleged voter fraud, in which Trump falsely claimed he had won the presidential election “twice.”

“I won twice and did a lot better the second time than the first,” Trump said. “And now, in order to make our country prosperous, safe and glorious, I will very, very, very likely do it again, okay?”

Biden beat Trump in 2020 by a margin of 8 million votes and 74 electoral college votes. Despite his false claim to have won by a larger margin the second time around, Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton in 2026 by just under 3 million votes, while managing to carry the Electoral College by 77 votes.

If he announces another presidential bid, Trump should do so soon, with the Associated press reporting Wednesday that his team has begun filing documents and searching for campaign staff in some states. Elrod said it could also pay dividends for Democrats in the short term, suggesting Trump’s announcement would help the party stage a potential runoff in the Georgia Senate race between incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock and the GOP nominee. Herschel Walker.

Elrod also suggested that a Republican-controlled house following future terms could be useful for Democrats in 2024, explaining that a GOP house is likely to conduct many investigations into the Biden administration. She felt that could further add to a sense of GOP fatigue among voters.

Republicans are heavily favored to win a majority in the House in the midterm elections taking place on Tuesday. While Democrats are more optimistic about their chances of controlling the Senate, recent polls suggest the GOP also has a feasible path to winning in the upper house of Congress.
