Donald Trump praised Tyson Fury during his alternate commentary on Evander Holyfield vs Vitor Belfort on Saturday night.
The former US president watched the Triller show from start to finish and gave his thoughts on the heavyweight division while seeing the return of David Haye.
Trump previously hosted Deontay Wilder at the White House and intended to invite Fury to visit him after his victory in their rematch last year, only to have the pandemic overturn all those plans.
Regarding Fury’s first fight with Wilder, Trump said, “It was a fight where people were shocked, because you look at the body type.
“Deontay was like the most perfect physical specimen.
“Fury fell, I thought he was out and all of a sudden he jumped up.
“Then he fought it for the second time and it was not a contest.
“He’s a good fighter and he has a very different body…
“Well, he had a great victory. He had no chance. And the body type, it’s not the type of a fighter you don’t think about.
“But he was so cowardly, he’s a really good fighter. And he’s a big guy, big, 6 feet 8 inches, 6 feet 9 inches.
“He’s a very good fighter. Just a different kind of look, right?
“His opponent looked so good that night, but it didn’t work out. Fury is a very good fighter.
“The funny thing is Deontay was never even slightly injured [in his previous fights], like 30-0 or something.
“But he didn’t do well. This [the power] didn’t work against Fury.
Trump was then asked about the upcoming trilogy fight next month and added, “It will be very interesting.”
Finally, there was talk of the other scheduled heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, but Trump appeared to know nothing about the pair.
When this fight was mentioned, his co-commentators had to give context to the former president who simply asked, “And how are they?”
