Don Mattingly’s son destroyed car while drunk, tried to sell it: cops

The son of New York Yankees legend and Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly was arrested for drunk driving in Indiana, where he crashed his car and attempted to sell it through the away, police said.

Jordon William Mattingly, 30, was arrested Monday night in Evansville, where cops say he crashed his car into a median while intoxicated before driving to a local dealership and d trying to sell it, reported the Evansville Courier & Press.

Mattingly was more than 3.5 times the legal limit and blew a .291 when officers conducted a breathalyzer test after crashing his silver Honda on Memorial Day, according to an arrest affidavit.

A witness reported seeing Mattingly’s Honda hit a 70mph median before hitting the road again. Minutes later, the driver was inside the D-Patrick Honda dealership appearing “super drunk” with his car missing a tire, according to the affidavit.

Mattingly – who had swelling and scratches on his shin and forehead – told cops he was at the dealership to sell his car and buy a new one. He also claimed he only had “one drink”, the affidavit states.

The damage to the Honda was caused by a pothole a few days earlier, Mattingly said. He later admitted to drinking “a lot” before getting behind the wheel, but insisted he hadn’t hit anything on his way to sell his car, police said.

At least five people called 911 after seeing smoke coming from Mattingly’s car, WFIE reported.

Mattingly is the son of Miami Marlins manager and former Yankees star Don Mattingly.

Donnie Baseball’s son also nearly fell several times after getting out of his SUV. Cops then found cans of Four Loko and White Claw inside the vehicle, according to the station.

Mattingly, of Evansville, was taken to hospital, where he reportedly refused a blood chemical test before being rushed to jail on Monday night. He remained in custody Wednesday morning on $1,500 bond, according to online records.

Mattingly faces two counts of impaired driving and public drunkenness. It is unclear whether he has hired a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
