Even NHL rules analyst Don Koharski couldn’t hold back against Artturi Lehkonen’s overtime goal Monday night in the Avalanche’s 6-5 win over the Oilers.
Koharski uttered ‘damn shit’ during TNT’s Game 4 broadcast of the Western Conference Finals, breaking down the Avalanche winger’s goal at 1:19 in overtime, which stood after a review of a high stick.
While describing the close call, Koharski said, “He has to be above the shoulder, the puck on the stick, above the shoulder – damn it.”
Warning: explicit language
The former NHL referee was immediately surprised as other broadcasters announcing the game laughed. Koharski added: “It’s close.”
With the game tied at 5-5 in overtime, Lehkonen deflected the puck off a Cale Makar shot for a goal, giving the Avalanche the victory.
Colorado completed its four-game sweep over Edmonton to propel the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2001. Colorado hasn’t lost on the road this playoff.
The Avalanche will face the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions.
The Rangers currently lead this best-of-seven series, 2-1, with Game 4 on Tuesday night in Tampa.
