Doja Cat slams trolls for ‘disrespectful’ comparisons to Britney Spears’ shaved head

Doja Cat is above “incredibly disrespectful” internet trolls comparing her buzzcut to Britney Spears, who shaved her head nearly 20 years ago in one of pop culture’s most shocking moments.
In August, the Grammy winner stunned fans when she made its debut her clean-shaven noggin on Instagram before shave your eyebrows live on camera as over 20,000 Instagram viewers watched.
Since then, critics on social media have questioned the rapper’s new look, with some linking Doja to Spears. shave it hair in 2007 before being placed under guardianship.
Spears’ incident came after her 24-hour stay at a Malibu rehab facility and amid a custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their sons, Sean Preston Federline and James Jayden Federlin.
“It’s so disrespectful of people to downplay what Britney went through and make a joke about something that was very serious and important in her life,” Doja, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, says Variety in a cover story published Wednesday.
The 27-year-old, known for her eclectic music and style of dress, added: “Every time I see a comment like that I can’t calculate what’s going on other than it’s just an awful thing.”
Shortly after Doja’s new appearance sparked controversy on social media, the star took to Instagram in August to shut down her followers, who she said assumed she had ulterior motives for the hair change.
“I’m rich, I’m fine,” Doja said on stream live on Instagram, adding, “The whole thing, like, ‘Are you okay, queen?’ Shit makes me want to rip out my – well, I guess the hair that I left out. Makes me want to pull out my fucking pubic hair – I hate that.
The “Woman” crooner then addressed the real reason for her exasperation with the swirling rumors behind her new look, explaining that she shaved his head as she rarely showed her natural hair in her work.
She also nodded that she’s spent most of her career wearing wigs, adding that she always felt like she was ‘never supposed to have hair’ in the first place. .
“I don’t like having hair. I can’t tell you a single time in my life that I’ve ever been like, ‘That’s cool.’ I just don’t like having hair,” she says on Instagram at the time.
“I remember feeling so exhausted from working out,” she continued, explaining that her wigs often slipped off her head during exercise. “I was training, but I couldn’t concentrate because I was more concerned with how I looked and how my hair was going.”
Doja – who picked up five nominations for the Grammy Awards 2023 – won the award for best pop duo or group performance alongside singer SZA at last year’s ceremony.
His latest album, “Planet Her,” is out in 2021. The Grammys will air live Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif., at 8 p.m. ET.
