DOJ sues Texas for redistribution, says new cards discriminate

Garland said the cards rob African American and Latino voters of the right to vote.

The Department of Justice is suing the state of Texas over its new maps of Congress and the state legislature, Attorney General Merrick Garland said on Monday.

This is the third time Biden’s Justice Department has sued the state and the second time it has sued over an election-related matter.

Garland said Texas violated the franchise law by drawing redistribution cards that deny African-American and Latino voters the right to vote.
