Images of a pair of dogs enjoying a heartfelt hug have been hailed as the perfect showcase of the benefits of having two pet pooches.
Looking after a dog is a big enough job on its own, so adding a second dog is not a decision to be taken lightly. Integrating the two is a slow process involving a gradual introduction over a series of weeks that begins with initial encounters designed to help both dogs become familiar with each other’s scent.
Even then, there is a risk that both canines will simply not gel. But, when it works and both dogs learn to co-exist, the results can be magical.
The perfect illustration of this was provided by Yuki and Maple, a Samoyed and an Australian Shepherd respectively, who recently went viral thanks to their adorable relationship together.
Already boasting some 37,000 Instagram followers, the canine duo caused a stir on TikTok with a video showing the pair enjoying the most enchanting hugs.
In the clip, which has racked up 6.7 million views, Yuki can be seen draping a paw over Maple and getting closer to her dog friend for a hug.
The images mark the culmination of a series of videos showing how Yuki has adjusted to the arrival of her younger sister who can be seen as a little puppy in another clip.
Although naturally cautious at first, Yuki wasted no time in making Maple feel like part of the family, as seen in various videos posted on their channel, babybearyuki.
But it was the images of the two enjoying their hug together that proved the most popular. According to audio included in the clip, the owner shared the video for anyone “thinking about getting a second dog” but unsure what might happen.
“It was totally worth it,” read the video’s caption, with the footage also showing the couple cuddling up on a bed under a blanket together. The clip can be viewed here.
If Yuki and Maple’s owner was hoping to convince viewers of the merits of having a second dog, that seems to have done the trick.
Commenting on the post, a TikTok user writing as daisythegoldiee said, “I’m convinced” BeauNoseBones replied, “Okay I’m getting a bro.”
Ladyandtheblues added that she was “definitely inspired” to have a second dog after watching the video. Elsewhere, Venetia Anderson described the couple as her “favorite dog combo” while Ventus simply said, “they’re so cute!”
Mykomushroom confessed that “that hug” brought tears to my eyes with prisha_p7 writing “it’s so pure” in response to the heartwarming clip.
Newsweek contacted babybearyuki for comment.
Although there are many problems with introducing a new dog, according to the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, there are times when the change can be extremely beneficial for the older dog. write in psychology todayhe explained that older dogs with “behavioral issues” can sometimes benefit from the company of another dog.
“Some fearful and anxious dogs are much calmer and more confident when another dog is around,” he explained. “Some dogs in separation distress are less distressed when there is another dog to keep them company at home when the owners are gone. The second dog can act as a buffer between the first dog and other dogs and people. .”
As loving a pet as you’re likely to find, this isn’t the first time a dog’s love of cuddles has proven popular on social media.
An adorable four-legged friend recently rose to internet fame after the owner revealed the dog’s habit of giving him a thank you hug every time he went outside. In another viral clip, a sleeping dog was surprisingly receptive after his owner’s cat came over for a hug.
