Dogs found in duct taped inside hot car in Saint-Louis

Firefighters found the car’s sunroof open, with two dogs inside which they described as “wrapped in plastic”

ST. LOUIS – Rachele Bishop recorded video of a woman keeping two dogs tied with duct tape in her car at the Planet Fitness parking lot off Chippewa in southern St. Louis. Bishop did not want to go on camera on Monday, but shared the statement she sent to animal control.

She called the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, who dispatched firefighters because their officers were busy. They found the car’s sunroof open, with two dogs inside which they described as “wrapped in plastic”. One dog was stuck under a stroller and blanket, the other under the front seat.

Police officials said according to their 911 notes, animal regulators investigated the incident and determined that no crime had been committed.

“Did you see that? Unbelievable,” commented Melanie Wade, who owns a grooming business and rescues dogs.

Wade saw the video posted to one of his animal Facebook groups.

“They were taped. Their front legs were glued to their bodies. Their backs were glued together. Their rear legs were glued to them. Their muzzle was glued to a dog, the other dog had a muzzle under the front seat of his car. “she said. noted.

According to Bishop’s statement, the woman claimed that she taped the dogs because they bit themselves and to keep them from barking. Once the animal control supervisor arrived, he spoke to the woman for a while and ended up letting her go with the dogs.

“It’s a crime and if you don’t think so, let someone tape you to your face, legs and hands and put you under the seat of a car for 45 minutes in the heat of Saint -Louis in the summer, ”Wade said.
