Media coverage has never been more concerned about the Delta variant

The science involved in the omicron variant certainly piques more interest as it arouses curiosity given the many mutations, but other than that, what exactly is it that makes omicron emanate a much stronger threat than the variant? delta?

When the delta variant first appeared, it brought risks similar to those currently feared in the market, namely a halt to global travel and increased border restrictions, of course adding to the economic pain.

There were also questions about the effectiveness of the vaccine, in case one forgot:

So what exactly makes this omicron scenario different?

Is it because this is a recurring theme that people are now less confident that we will really be able to pass from the virus? May be.

But an interesting graphic from Bloomberg points out that the media echo chamber certainly wasn’t as loud when it came to the delta variant as opposed to the moving coverage of the omicron variant at the moment:

The graph reveals that there are over 36,000 stories involving omicron on November 29, and that’s more than double the peak of all media coverage on Delta.

Ultimately, we can only go where the data tells us to go and there is still little information and clarity on this until the coming weeks.

No one can say for sure how serious the omicron threat really is, but the “noise” it emits certainly won’t help decipher this answer.
