Does Josh Jacobs play Monday night?  Fantastic injuries update for the Ravens-Raiders

The Ravens RB hall was ravaged by injuries ahead of Monday night’s Week 1 football game in Las Vegas, but it looked like all systems were for the Raiders – until late Sunday afternoon , that is to say. It was then that reports emerged that running back Josh Jacobs had been demoted to “questionable” for MNF – not because of injury but rather illness. The good news is that it doesn’t deal with COVID-19, but we still probably won’t know if it is playing until the official active / inactive reports. For fantasy football owners making their last start, make the decision of the week, waiting for these updates cuts things a little too close.

Does Josh Jacobs play Monday night?

The outlook for Jacobs was not particularly favorable for this game. Not only is he facing what should be a solid defense from the Ravens, but the presence of Kenyan Drake also adds a new wrinkle to the Raiders offense. Who will play the most on transmissions? Will Jacobs be substituted around the goal line often? How many races will Jacobs do on average per game? Nonetheless, many fantasy owners had it in their lineups and relied on its production.

With news of his illness (again, not COVID-19), Jacobs is even less likely to see a full set of keys even if he’s active. He could watch a relatively lean 10-12 runs, and if he doesn’t get into the end zone, he looks destined to have a disappointing day. Of course, this weekend, there really aren’t many other options left. If you need a new RB, then Le’Veon Bell is really the only one available in over 50% of Yahoo’s leagues, and we don’t even know if he’s going to play a lot (or not at all). Hope you handcuffed Jacobs with the Kenyan Drake on draft day, and it’s reasonable to play a healthy Drake even if Jacobs is active.

The real lesson here is that you should always move players who haven’t started their games to your flex (if possible). If you did, you would have more options now. WRs Bryan Edwards, Henry Ruggs III, Hunter Renfrow, and Sammy Watkins are all reasonable pivots for a flex point when you’re in a bind like this. Edwards and Ruggs are particularly good options for a boom or a slowdown.

If you’ve left Jacobs in your RB place (and started an RB already in your flex), then you’ve limited yourself unnecessarily. It’s week 1, so we’re all still (re) learning these things, but we’ve seen enough “inactive surprises” this week to remind us.
