Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said the GOP is a party built on “fear”, “fraud” and “fascism” on Saturday during the latest episode of MSNBC’s The Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross.
Her final comments came in response to Cross showing several clips of a variety of Republican campaign ads, which she said were “just a sampling of the Republican craziness on the ballot in the upcoming election of mid-term”.
Cross added that the GOP operates on a “platform of lies, fear, sexism, and racism,” then reflected, “You have to wonder, how are millions of voters so eager to deliver this country to right-wing extremists who are now part of the GOP?”

She prompted Harrison by saying, “You just heard all the GOP soundbites over there —”
“It’s bullshit,” Harrison interrupted.
Cross agreed, saying, “It’s a hot mess, which makes me wonder, why are so many people eager to hand over Congress to this party? There’s a lot of criticism from Democrats about messages. Why do you think this is the case?”
“Well, look, I don’t think people are eager for this,” the DNC chairman said. “I think right now, you know, you kind of have a lull. Once you’ve won a big election like we did in 2020, people think, ‘Well, it’s okay. pass and now we can rest a bit. “”
“But people have to understand, we can’t stop,” he said. “Saving democracy isn’t something you can just take a vacation from. It’s something you have to constantly do, especially given the craziness we see in Congress.”

He then went after the Republican Party directly, saying he was turning fascist.
“You’re thinking about the Republican Party right now. It’s a party that’s built on fear. It’s built on fraud and I would like to say that’s fascism too – they’re tinkering about fascism, right now, within the Republican Party,” he said.
“The Democratic Party, on the other hand, Tiffany, has to be a party that talks about hope. It’s about aspirations. It’s about keeping people safe,” he continued.
Cross asked Harrison, “Is this message reaching people?”
He replied, “Well, that’s the message that we need to get across and listen to, send messages and get the message across, sometimes it’s hard.”

He then blamed some media outlets for distracting from positive Democrat messaging. “Because I can tell you, most of the time, and it’s not you, but some of your colleagues in the media want to report on Democrats in disarray, rather than Democrats who are aligned.”
Harrison is no stranger to partisan hyperbole. Earlier in April, he called Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a “maggot-infested man,” and last week called Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., “a little devil of Florida”.
