PONCA, NEB – The Dixon County Sheriff’s Office announced that K-9 Josie died unexpectedly at home on Saturday.
K-9 Josie was 7 years old and worked for the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office from 2015 to 2021.
“To those who knew her from afar, K-9 Josie was the loudest of the forces, still barking and establishing her territory, a look that would cast many doubts on their approach,” according to the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office.
“To those who knew her well, beneath the seemingly harsh exterior, she was a gentle soul who absolutely loved her job and wanted nothing more than love, affection and her reward toy ball.”
During countless calls and trainings, Josie was always ready to work at any time, right next to her assistant manager Rich Lamprecht, the statement said.
Whether it was a drug hunt or a protest, she illustrated how important these K-9s are not only to our safety and well-being, but also to the education of our public, “the statement said.
The Dixon County Sheriff’s Office thanked Dr Melissa Heithold and her staff at the Wayne Vet Clinic for the care they provided to K-9 Josie during her ACL injury on Saturday, the statement said. They also thanked everyone who sent donations to support K-9 Josie over the years.
