Divers searching for Kiely Rodni find a body in a tank near his disappearance

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Divers searching for a missing 16-year-old girl said they found a car with a body inside at a reservoir in northern California, not far from where she attended at a big party a few weeks ago. The FBI was at the scene as authorities worked to confirm his identity, the sheriff’s office said.

Volunteer divers with a group called Adventures with Purpose said they found Kiely Rodni, of Truckee, on Sunday inside his car, which they say came to rest upside down in about 14 feet of water in Prosser Reservoir. Their Facebook post said the family had been notified. A website created by his family was updated on Sunday to say the search had been put on hold due to unconfirmed reports.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. Monday to outline the results.

Kiely Rodni was last seen at a party near a campground in Truckee, California.

Rodni was last seen Aug. 6 near the Prosser Family Campground in Truckee, attending a party with hundreds of youngsters, police said.

Her friend, Sami Smith was at the party with her and said that Rodni had planned to spend the night at the campsite.

“I know she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to drive. And if she had been driving, she wouldn’t have gone far,” Smith told KOVR-TV.

Her friends and family feared that she had been kidnapped. His phone had been out of service since the party and his silver 2013 Honda CRV had not been found. Marine units from three local sheriff’s offices searched the reservoir. The search spanned a wide area of California and Nevada and involved at least 16 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Dozens of family and friends also sought out and offered a $50,000 reward.
