Dina Asher-Smith took the victory in the 200m at the Diamond League meeting in Florence.

The world champion claimed an emphatic victory in the best 22.06 seconds of the season, the second fastest time in the world this year and a Golden Gala meeting record.

Asher-Smith’s time was only 0.03 seconds away from Shaunae Miller-Uibo’s world-leading mark and she is convinced there is more to come.

“It’s been really tough over the past year and a bit because of the pandemic so I’m really proud to be able to spend that kind of time [down] and I definitely have more of it in me, ”she said.

Victory continued the 25-year-old’s undefeated start to the season after wins in the 100m at Gateshead and Hengelo and her season opener in the 200m in Savona last month.

Her compatriot Laura Muir was also impressive finishing third in a high-level 1500m won by Dutchman Sifan Hassan, who clocked a world record of 3 minutes 53.63 seconds.

The Scotsman finished with the best time of the season in 3: 55.59 and said: “I’m really happy with this result – I think it’s my second fastest time ever and very good. below my British record. To be able to run that fast in the lead time until the Olympic Games, it really feels good. “
