‘Dillian is going to punch you and expose you’ – Ricky Hatton worries about Tyson Fury if he decides to face Dillian Whyte

Ricky Hatton wants to see Tyson Fury move away from the cutting edge style he used against Deontay Wilder when he takes on Dillian Whyte.

The Gypsy King went undefeated in three fights against Wilder with two wins and a draw, successfully winning the WBC heavyweight title and defending it in the process.

Ricky Hatton has often said that Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight

However, in those three fights, Fury was knocked down multiple times by the man many consider to be the most impactful heavyweight in the world. Wilder might be in the conversation for the toughest ever, in fact.

Fury takes on Whyte on April 23 at Wembley Stadium and Hatton, a former two-weight world champion, thinks Fury should get back to what he does best and that’s the outside box.

“I think Tyson might have to go back to the old Tyson against Dillian,” Ricky Hatton told BT Sport Boxing. “He doesn’t need me to tell him to do this; when it comes to speed, ability, and movement, Tyson is above Dillian.

“The only chance Dillian has is if he tags Tyson, and the longer Tyson sits there and trades like he’s made one in his last two fights, the more chances he gives Dillian.

“Dillian will hit you and lay you down. I think if Dillian hits Tyson, I just wonder how often my old pal can keep getting up off his ass from those heavy, heavy knockdowns.

“I think once [in first Deontay Wilder fight], he looked like he was out. So he needs to be a little more sensible in this next fight and pick his moments, especially at the start. Pick him early but box him, take the sting out of him first, then get his foot in the straight.

Fury has been installed as the strong favorite with the bookmakers, but Hatton thinks Whyte, 28-2, deserves Fury’s respect and a close shootout is a fight that will suit Whyte.

“I think he needs to be a little more careful and show Dillian the respect he deserves because he can punch, man. He’s got a good camp and great people advising him.

“I’m not saying he should run a mile to get away from Dillian because Tyson has proven he can get away with people. But I just think he forfeits all his perks if he faces Dillian.

“I think Dillian likes toes, and he likes brawling. Tyson has so much more, no disrespect to Dillian, but he has so much more attributes in his hand. He’s got height, reach, he can go southpaw, he can go orthodox, he can step back and box and move and use his defense and sit on the ropes,” Hatton said.

Frank Warren is hoping to boost attendance for the Wembley showdown to allow just over 100,000 people to watch the biggest national showdown in years.
