‘Devastated’ – Tottenham ace James Maddison releases brutally honest statement after England axe

James Maddison has released a statement after being left out of England’s final Euro squad ahead of their final friendly against Iceland on Friday.

The 27-year-old Tottenham midfielder has managed to rack up nine assists and four goals for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season in 28 Premier League appearances, but has been unable to maintain his early form season after returning from an absence of almost three months following an ankle injury. .

He was named in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad but was told this week he is surplus to requirements ahead of this summer’s showpiece tournament. Maddison released a statement on her social media platforms Thursday afternoon.

“Devastated isn’t enough. I trained well and worked hard all week, but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs coming back from injury in the second half of the season was nothing probably not at the level I was which gave Gareth a decision to make,” he wrote.

“I always thought there would be a place for me in a 26-man squad because I feel I bring something different and I have been a pillar of this whole Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in Germany , but the manager made the decision and I have to respect it. I will come back, I have no doubt about it. I wish the boys all the luck in the world in Germany, an incredible group and guys who I literally call some of my best. friends. I sincerely hope that football comes home.

The midfielder will now join Postecoglou’s squad at the start of pre-season to begin preparing for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
