Carter Hart was again Tuesday evening. Thanks to 60 minutes of regulation, the Rangers were kept away from the board of directors and the Leaflets‘ the goalkeeper made 30 saves.
In overtime, Rangers continued to pepper the Flyers’ net with shots, six in total, and the last one with 53 seconds left in overtime finally beat Hart. Chris Kreider scored the only goal as the Flyers fell to Rangers, 1-0.
Both teams skated to a scoreless first period. Rangers held a narrow 9-7 shooting lead for 20 minutes but had the best chances and possession in the first frame.
Rangers had the big advantage on shots in the second period, beating the Flyers 14-4, but Hart held on and stopped whatever came his way, as the game went scoreless in the third. period.
The Flyers had a few quality scoring opportunities late in the third, but Igor Shesterkin was up to the task. Rangers had several quality chances and got a late power play but couldn’t capitalize and it forced extra time.
The Rangers beat the Flyers, 6-0, in overtime, getting several chances. The last chance came on a breakaway from Kreider, who took control after a header pass from Mika Zibanejad on a shot fired past the Flyers that left them defenseless. Kreider made the backhand move and put the puck past Hart for the winner, his fourth goal of the season.
Hart still finished with 35 saves on 36 shots in the loss. Shesterkin made 19 saves in the shutout victory.
The Flyers are back on the ice Wednesday night when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m.
