Former Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski told ESPNU’s Sirius XM radio that the desire to own an “automatic weapon” was “disgusting”.
Krzyzewski said Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors was “fair” for making gun control comments.
Breitbart News reported that Kerr tightened gun control after the May 24, 2022, school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
“When are we going to do something? Kerr exclaimed. “I’m tired, I’m so tired of getting up here and then offering my condolences to the devastated families out there and I’m so tired of moments of silence. Sufficient!”
He specifically pointed to background checks, saying, “There are currently 50 senators who are refusing to vote on HR8, which is a background check rule that the House passed a few years ago. It’s been there for two years and there was a reason they won’t vote on it.
Kerr did not mention that the Uvalde shooter purchased his gun at retail, meaning a background check was already required for the purchase.
Krzyzewski said Kerr had the right to say what he said.
Minutes later, in an interview with ESPNU Radio, Krzyzewski alluded to the House and the Senate, saying, “Their first and foremost responsibility is to serve the people.”
He stayed on the topic of Congress saying, “People who are hurting are people who need you. Like, why don’t you? Go on. You know? What are we doing ? You know, we don’t take care of our people. And we can get into guns. Like, you need an automatic weapon? Are you kidding me. You must be laughing at me. It’s disgusting.”
