Deshaun Watson will not be making a return to action for the Houston Texans after it was announced that starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor would miss Thursday’s game with the Carolina Panthers.

Texans coach David Culley said on Monday that even if Taylor was sidelined with a left hamstring injury, former franchise and All-Pro QB Watson would remain on the inactive list. – just like it was the first two weeks of the season.

Taylor was scheduled for an MRI scan on Monday. NFL Network announced he had already been ruled out for Thursday’s game, claiming later Monday he would likely miss several weeks with the injury. The Houston Chronicle also reported that Taylor could miss four weeks of action.

The Texans are not playing Watson while awaiting the findings of a criminal and NFL investigation into the sexual harassment and assault allegations made against him by more than 20 women.

Watson requested a trade earlier this year, and the Texans are said to be looking for a set of players and draft picks in return.

Culley had hoped that Taylor, who was injured in Sunday’s 31-21 loss to the Cleveland Browns, could play when the Texans (1-1) host the Panthers (2-0).

“If he’s ready to play, he’ll play,” Culley said of Taylor.

If Taylor isn’t available, rookie Davis Mills will likely make his first professional start.

He replaced Taylor, 32, after the veteran injured himself when he rushed to score a 15-yard touchdown with 7:06 left in the second quarter, which gave the Texans a 14- lead. 7. He played the next series, then was replaced by Mills, a third-round pick from Stanford.

Before leaving, Taylor was efficient, completing 10 of 11 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. During the season, he completed 70.5% of his passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception.

Mills scored eight of 18 passes for 102 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Houston wide receivers Danny Amendola (hamstrings) and Nico Collins (shoulder) were also injured on Sunday. Culley said Monday they were still being assessed.

“We don’t know if they will be available this week,” he said. “I know that with Nico it was pretty important what he got. We’ll take it day by day.”
