At a press briefing Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R.) criticized US government agencies and those responsible for managing the COVID pandemic, namely Dr Anthony Fauci, for issuing guidelines contradictory that were not supported by scientific evidence.
A mine of Fauci’s email correspondence from last year was recently published under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). In an email, Fauci admitted the questionable effectiveness of wearing the mask to protect against COVID infection, despite publicly pleading with Americans to wear face coverings in most places and places for most of the year.
“I now think of Fauci’s emails. . . it’s pretty clear that a lot of this stuff was stolen from the seat of your pants. It was not based on hard data, ”DeSantis said.
“This bureaucracy needs to be held to account. You cannot have a bureaucracy that just publishes these rules on the fly. They literally said, “If you are sunbathing on a cruise ship, you have to wear a mask.” Is that so? I mean, give me a break, ”he added apparently to criticize the CDC.
The governor criticized the traditional media’s strict adherence to the COVID orthodoxy accepted in 2020 and the neglect of intellectual openness that could give way to other competing and convincing explanations. He lambasted the censorship by tech companies of those who discussed the laboratory leak hypothesis of the origin of COVID on the internet.
“Actually, there were people showing, one pointing out that this thing was from the lab. If you said that a year ago, the corporate media said you were a conspiracy theorist, ”he said. “Facebook de-platform you for saying that.”
DeSantis recently enacted legislation that would financially penalize social media platforms that suspend politicians’ accounts or remove certain political content.
Referring to the old scientific consensus that COVID has passed organically from animals to humans, DeSantis said: “Now it’s almost impossible to argue that it was natural because they couldn’t make any connection and it is 15 months later. The lab leak is by far the most plausible explanation, so we just have to ask ourselves, “Why Fauci and these other people? [sic] to send grants to Wuhan and those other places? “
DeSantis has condemned the alleged history of the United States of partially funding gain-of-function research or scientific experiments conducted on diseases in a way that makes them more infectious, transmissible or fatal. Some in the scientific community, as well as prominent Republicans, have claimed that the virus may have accidentally escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology via a laboratory while performing these high-risk experiments.
“I’m sorry, this is not an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars. When he [Fauci] testified many years ago that doing research on the gain of function, the risk of having a pandemic is worth doing the research, I don’t agree with that. I think it was a disaster. . . and China covered it up, they must be held accountable. But bureaucrats in the United States must also be responsible for what they have done, ”DeSantis concluded.
