Derek McInnes and Michael Appleton among favorites to be West Brom’s next manager | Football news

Derek McInnes and Michael Appleton are among the favorites to take over at West Bromwich Albion, after David Wagner retired from the race on Thursday.

Wagner was installed as the new manager of BSC Young Boys in Switzerland on Thursday after talks with the Baggies broke off.

Appleton and McInnes are the two bookmaker favorites for the role at the Hawthorns.

McInnes played over 100 games for Albion in the early 2000s and is available free of charge after leaving Aberdeen in March.

Michael Appleton is currently in charge at Lincoln City

Appleton is a more expensive option, as West Brom would have to pay compensation to release him from his current role in Lincoln City.

He, too, has a relationship with Albion – he played alongside McInnes at the Hawthorns 18 years ago and was interim manager there in 2011.
