Derek Chauvin files motion for new trial in George Floyd case, alleging jury misconduct

Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin filed an appeal for a retrial on Tuesday after being convicted of the murder of George Floyd last month.

Chauvin’s attorney, Eric Nelson, filed the claim alleging that Chauvin’s ability to have a fair trial was affected by pre-trial publicity. The petition alleges that the court abused its discretion by denying the requests for a change of venue and a new trial.

A jury found Chauvin guilty of second and third degree murder, as well as second degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death in May 2020.

This is a developing story; come back for updates.
