A statement from co-directors Quantuma then confirmed that local property developer Clowes had been awarded preferred bidder status, with the aim of finalizing a takeover by Wednesday.

On Friday, the joint administrators announced that Clowes Developments Ltd had bought Pride Park, granted the club an interim loan and would submit a bid to buy them.

And a Quantuma spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday: “Over the last day or so the joint administrators have continued positive discussions with Derbyshire-based property group Clowes Developments (UK) Ltd, which has resulted in to a credible and acceptable offer. submitted.

“Discussions regarding this offer, which is in line with EFL’s insolvency policy, have taken place with a range of stakeholders.

“The joint administrators are delighted to confirm that they have formally accepted Clowes’ offer to acquire Derby County Football Club out of administration. Clowes has been awarded preferred bidder status with immediate effect. The joint administrators will enter now in a period of exclusivity with Clowes, with the acquisition of the club’s business and assets due to be completed on June 29.

“All parties are now working hard to conclude what remains a complex legal transaction in a very short timeframe. Once completed, the transaction will allow the club to move forward and prepare for the upcoming season outside of administration.

“It will also ensure that Pride Park Stadium and the club are under the control of a new local owner with the commitment and resources to allow the club to move forward with a clean slate. The offer offers also the best return for creditors and allows joint administrators to fulfill their statutory obligations and will ensure that there are no further point deductions levied against the club once it is no longer in administration.

“Acceptance of Clowes’ offer and entry into a period of exclusivity means that the co-directors are now barred from continuing discussions with other parties who had expressed an interest in acquiring the club. The main objective now is to complete the transaction with Clowes within the given time frame.

Clowes became the potential new owner after American businessman Chris Kirchner withdrew his offer to buy the club.

Derby were placed in administration at the start of last season and then relegated from the Championship after being hit with a combined 21 point deduction.

All the chaos in Derby took its toll on Rooney

Rooney, after being in charge for a year and a half and fighting a valiant fight against the downfall, resigned saying he felt ‘the club now needs to be run by someone with fresh energy and unaffected by events that have taken place over the past 18 months.

As Rosenior gets to work in the hot seat as preparations gear up for the upcoming season, Rooney will reflect on what lies ahead.

After stepping down from his first managerial role, the 36-year-old will be looking at ways back into the game with Premier League and Championship positions most likely to be on his radar.

But according to Dean Saunders, the most important thing for Rooney has to be the club itself, with another tough job having the potential to end his managerial career.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Whatever league he works in, whether it’s Ligue 1, the Championship or the Premier League, he has to go to a club where he thinks he has a chance to do well. .

“If he takes an impossible job, for example, Nottingham Forest to try and win the Premier League, it’s an impossible job.

“If the owner says his budget is the tenth highest in the league and he says he wants you in the play-offs, then I would say ‘wait a minute, there are ten teams that have spent more than ‘money than us, I know I can work my way into the top four, but it’s a tough job you’ve given me.

“But if they say they have the highest budget in the league but just want to be in the play-offs as a minimum, that’s a good job.

“Regardless of the league, give yourself the best chance of doing well. Do not accept an impossible job now, for it will be its end.

When asked if he should follow in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard who started his managerial career with Rangers, Saunders wasn’t so sure.

He said: ‘If he’s offered a job like Sunderland who’s just come up, has massive support, the owners have just come in and said ‘we’ll try to do that, once he’s operational, this club is going to places”.

“It would be a great job for him.

“To take the Rangers job or the Celtic job, I thought Steven Gerrard was crazy when he took it. He had Liverpool’s work on a plate, but he went there and made himself proud.

“He did better than I thought because Celtic had double the money they had at Rangers to start, but he won them.

“He did well and he probably deserves some credit for this team.”
