Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott says Tyson Fury would lose to Oleksandr Usyk now, but says younger version of ‘Gypsy King’ could win

Oleksandr Usyk would be too much for the current version of Tyson Fury to handle, according to Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott.

Scott, who has fought with both men before during his time as an active heavyweight, knows the pair very well.

His knowledge of Fury is especially heightened, considering he spent 18 months preparing Wilder to face him in their trilogy fight.

The American duo finally came up short last October, and Fury is now set to defend his title against Dillian Whyte, live on talkSPORT on Saturday night.

But Scott thinks an undisputed fight could be the one to end the Gypsy King’s unbeaten run.

“I want to be very clear, this is not coming from a hateful place or anything like that,” Scott told ESNews.

“I am a man of logic. I go out of my logic.

“As far as Usyk and Fury – I believe the Tyson Fury that fought Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder the first time around, I believe Tyson Fury gives Usyk all kinds of fits.

“The movement, the Tyson Fury reflexes.

“I believe this Tyson Fury right now, I believe Usyk would beat.

“The heavier Tyson Fury that comes forward, that wants to take risks and put its weight on people.

“I think it’s a perfect system for Usyk to work.

“Because his feet are quick, he turns on angles, he’s a good counter-puncher and his punches are so precise that they’re a little more stinging than they look.

“So if I had to bet on that, I’d bet Usyk would beat Tyson Fury.

“This Tyson Fury is much more vulnerable and easier to hit than any Tyson Fury before.”
