Dem. Congresswoman calls for exchanging Border Patrol with ‘civilized’ personnel

Texas Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar has called for an end to law enforcement’s handling of illegal border crossings and opting instead for ‘civilized’ personnel, saying Thursday it would ‘restore’ the dignity of all the people involved and that the Biden administration “has been very open” to his proposals.

During an interview on MSNBC “Reports” with José Díaz-Balart, the El Paso Democrat discusses the proposals she raised with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“I proposed and worked with Secretary Mayorkas to reform the way we deal with asylum seekers at the southern border,” she said.

According to Escobar, this reform includes a plan to “civilize” the current staff who deal with the many migrants who enter the country illegally on a daily basis.

“We shouldn’t be using law enforcement to basically manage, monitor or treat vulnerable populations,” she said. “We should civilize these personnel and bring law enforcement back to what they were trained to do.”

“Fortunately,” she noted, “the secretary was very open to my ideas.”

Calling it a potential “watershed moment,” Escobar said his plan would restore dignity to migrants as well as federal personnel.

“I think it will be really a watershed moment for us on the border if we are able to make this work work successfully,” she said, “so that we bring dignity back to the process, bring dignity back to the migrants, federal personnel and maintaining our security at the same time.

In response, many took to social media and criticized the Democratic congresswoman.

“The prosecution rests our case,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) wrote.

“What does she have in mind?” Social workers?” asked Deputy Director of Rapid Response at the Republican National Committee (RNC), Jake Schneider. “Leave me alone. Democrats want OPEN BORDERS! »

“They are determined to make the southern states blue,” wrote a Twitter user.

“She is a threat to national and economic security,” wrote another one.

“So instead of sending border patrols to our border, the left wants to send social workers, most likely to sign them up for whatever benefits they may be enrolled in,” another Twitter user wrote.

“Democrats are dangerously anarchic, plain and simple,” another user wrote.

“Stop defending the invasion of our country and my state!” » wrote yet another.

“First replace the cops. Now border control,” another Twitter user wrote. “Do we have an overpopulation of social workers?

Last year, Escobar argued those concerned about inflation should want the boost in productivity that will come from the work permit provisions for illegal immigrants in the Build Back Better reconciliation bill.

His latest remarks come as the Biden administration plans to end the Title 42 policy that helps border officials regulate the influx of unprecedented levels of illegal immigration, in a move that is expected to bring an even bigger wave. migrants at the southern border of the United States.

America is currently facing record levels of illegal immigration, with more than 209,000 migrants apprehended after crossing the border from Mexico into the United States in March, the highest number of migrant arrests for a month since March 2000 – the last year of the Clinton administration.

It also breaks the Biden-era record of 200,658 set in July 2021.

Last year, President Biden together new records of illegal immigration by enticing more than two million cross-border commuters and illegal aliens to undertake the often deadly journey through Mexico to the country’s southern border in hopes of being released back to the United States

Earlier this year, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was reported for privately admitting that illegal immigration during President Biden’s first year in office is “worse now than…ever” in American history.

Last week, Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) accused President Biden of seriously harming national security by deliberately creating a border crisis to expand the Democratic electoral bloc, as he called for an investigation of the president for his actions.

On Monday, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) warned the country was heading for the “greatest migration crisis in US history” as a result of the policies of the Biden administration.
