Decatur man charged with capital murder in death of 8-month-old child

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – A Decatur man was charged with capital murder Thursday in connection with the death of an 8-month-old baby.

According to Morgan County District Attorney Scott Anderson, 23-year-old Cameron Almen Elliott of Decatur was charged with capital murder before a grand jury on Thursday, April 7. Elliott was originally arrested on February 10, 2021.

As previously reported, officers responded to a call for an unresponsive baby on Victoria Drive SW in February 2021. The baby was taken to Parkway Hospital with blunt force injuries, before being transferred to Children’s of Alabama. The baby later died at the Children’s.

Elliott was charged with three counts of capital murder, one for killing a child under 14 and two for a child during a time he sexually abused a child. Anderson’s office said Elliott was also charged with sexual torture, first degree possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Anderson said he intended to pursue the death penalty against Elliott.

Elliott is being held without bail at the Morgan County Jail.
