Debt ceiling deadline is now June 5, allowing more time for negotiations

Leigh Ann Caldwell, The Washington Post:
Hi Geoff.
So it’s true. They have – there are a few things here. They still have a few days left, as Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen originally said it could be as early as June 1. Thus, June 5 is now the final date. This is something that Congress did not have before.
While… it might give them a few more days. I will say though, what the Republican leaders are saying, Kevin – Patrick McHenry, the congressman from North Carolina who is helping McCarthy lead these negotiations, told reporters a little while ago that now his Republican Conference, which was skeptical about the date anyway, now has something definitive.
And now he can urge everyone to act a little faster, Geoff.
