Death of Tire Nichols: Memphis police charge officer who allegedly used Taser during traffic stop


Memphis police said they charged another officer after the Jan. 7 traffic stop that sent Tire Nichols to a local hospital, where he died days later.

The Memphis Police Department said in a statement that Officer Preston Hemphill was fired and charged by the department with “multiple” policy violations.

“As of today, the Memphis Police Department has reached an additional conclusion as part of the administrative investigation into the tragic death of Mr. Tire Nichols. After a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding this incident, we have determined that Constable Preston violated the policies of multiple departments,” the police department said in a tweet.

Memphis police charge Hemphill with the following violations:

Constable Preston Hemphill has been relieved of his duties with the Memphis Police Department.

  3. Compliance with regulations namely: conducted energy weapon (TASER)
  4. Compliance with regulations, namely: Uniforms (equipment issued)
  5. Inventory and processing of recovered goods

Officials told Fox News Digital on January 30 that Hemphill had been relieved of his duties.
