DC FanDome: Gotham Knights Story Trailer Sets Up Battle With Court of Owls

Gotham Knights unveiled an all-new story trailer at the DC FanDome on October 16. After more than a year since the last DC FanDome, the upcoming co-op action-RPG has offered a deeper look into its overarching plot. Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood will face off against the sinister Court of Owls, an evil organization overseeing nearly every nefarious activity that takes place in Gotham City. With Batman dead, it’s up to the remaining Bat Family to take over as the Dark Knight this time around.

The new Gotham Knights trailer begins with an ominous voiceover from Penguin, which makes it clear that Batman or even Commissioner Jim Gordon is no longer around. Viewers are soon introduced to the Court of Owls. DC Comics fans would know the Court of Owls as a vile organization that kidnaps child circus performers and trains them to become vicious assassins called Talons. This is followed by a montage of the four heroes exploring the secret lairs of the Court of Owls, while being watched by the Court itself.

For a brief second, we see a glimpse of an old man sitting in front of what appears to be the Batcomputer. Could it be Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s faithful butler? Or could it be an elderly Bruce Wayne, known to have faked his death more than once in the comics? Fans will have to wait to find out.

The trailer ends with Penguin telling Nightwing, “If you really want to go down that rabbit hole, you have to know there’s no turning back.” The release date for Gotham Knights is set for 2022, with no specific date yet announced.

Gotham Knights was developed by WB Games Montreal, the studio behind the lackluster Batman: Arkham Origins (2013). Billed as part of the Batman: Arkham franchise at the time, the game failed to impress fans and critics alike. Developer Rocksteady – the studio behind the official Batman: Arkham trilogy which included Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight – has also released a gameplay trailer for its upcoming outing in the DC Universe, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, at the DC FanDome this year.

Gotham Knights is slated for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X in 2022.
