Who is David Prutton towards victory in the Sky Bet Championship in midweek? Find out here …
Blackburn vs Hull, Tuesday 7:45 pm – Live on Heavenly sports arena
For the second game in a row, Blackburn dropped points from a winning position on Saturday when Luton scored two late goals to secure a 2-2 draw. I wonder what psychological effect this will have on them, especially since they have only won once since day one.
However, they can lick their lips at the prospect of facing Hull, who really struggles in front of goal. It’s now six games without a win in all competitions for Grant McCann’s men, and in five of them they have failed to find their way to the net. I have a relatively routine home win.
Prutton predicts: 2-1 (Sky Bet odds)
Bournemouth vs QPR, Tuesday 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports Football
I’m really looking forward to this one, as two of the division’s top leaders go head to head on the South Coast. Bournemouth had a tough week ahead of the international break but they looked rejuvenated against Barnsley a few days ago and were on their way to victory. By the way, what a start to the season young Jordan Zemura has.
Meanwhile, QPR is one of only three teams to remain undefeated in the Championship so far and I was impressed with the fight they showed to come back against Reading to preserve that status. I’m sure there will be goals in this one, I just can’t call a winner.
Prutton predicts: 2-2 (Sky Bet odds)
Sheffield United vs Preston, Tuesday 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports Football Red Button
The return to second tier was initially a bit rocky for Sheffield United but they seem to be settling a bit better now – not least thanks to the six they put in front of Peterborough this weekend. It’s the kind of victory that works wonders for a team’s confidence.
Preston has had a pretty positive month, with three wins and a draw in his last four outings in all competitions. They too have started scoring goals but while they hope to forget the Bristol City goalless draw I’m not sure they have anything at Bramall Lane.
Prutton predicts: 2-1 (Sky Bet odds)
Birmingham vs Fulham, Wednesday 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports Football Red Button
Birmingham’s Derby win on Friday night wasn’t the most convincing, but they were clinical and collected three points which put them on the cusp of the top six which is a great platform on which Lee Bowyer can lean.
I’m going to put my hand up and say I didn’t expect Fulham to lose in Blackpool on Saturday. They had such an electric start, but they just took off at Bloomfield Road. I think they might well stutter in this one too.
Prutton predicts: 1-1 (Sky Bet odds)
Stoke vs Barnsley, Wednesday 7:45 p.m. – Live on Sky Sports Football
The past few seasons have been tough for Stoke, but they’re finally breaking free from the mid-table clutches and laying the groundwork for a promotion it seems. Michael O’Neill’s men are the second-highest scorers in the top 10, which they no doubt hope to improve, but they have won three of their last four games and are doing well.
Barnsley, however, is stuttering right now and has won just one of his last six games in all competitions. The Tykes can’t seem to settle into a rhythm, and for that reason I’m backing a home win here.
Prutton predicts: 2-0 (Sky Bet odds)
Nottingham Forest vs Middlesbrough, Wednesday 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports Football Red Button
It’s an understatement to say things aren’t going to be planned for Forest at the moment. They’re still rooted at the base of the table, with just a dot to their name, and the pressure is increasing day by day on Chris Hughton. This first victory of the season is not there.
While not so gloomy, there is a similar situation in Middlesbrough. With the caliber of players they brought in this summer, expectations were high and you imagine Neil Warnock will be disappointed with what he’s seen so far. I think they can just take the points here, but not by much.
Prutton predicts: 0-1 (Sky Bet odds)
