In an interview with the far-left Daily Beast, director David Cronenberg blamed political correctness for the lack of sex scenes in modern films.
“Given that there is so little adult sex in contemporary mainstream North American cinema,” the Daily Beast asked, “has it become more difficult to make an intensely eroticized film like Future Crimes?”
“Of course, I’m aware of how things went, because I feel like I’ve been here before with political correctness, and now it’s something else,” Cronenberg replied. “But it’s really the same thing, which is people trying to censor what other people say and think and do. It seems to be a common thing with us human beings, that we do it periodically. I have to ignore it.
Future Crimes is the latest from the 79-year-old director Fly (1986), Scanners (nineteen eighty one), Dead ringtones (1988), Eastern promises (2007), The Brood (1979), and The dead zone (1983), among others.
Cronenberg is best known as a creator of “body horror”, where we witness terrible things happening to a person’s body. Fly is a pretty extraordinary example of that and one of the best remakes ever made.
Keep in mind that it’s not just sex that’s missing from movies. It is also sexiness. Now that the humorless Puritan harpies of the woke Gestapo are in charge, any attempt at sex appeal is attacked as something akin to rape. Oh, that horrible male gaze. Oh, that horrible objectification.
I have not seen Future Crimes, but if the past is a prologue, regardless of gender, it will not violate the Woke Production Code prohibiting sex appeal. Sex that degrades and disgusts is fine with the Gestapo Woke. Ugliness is the new beauty – the grosser the better.
I am not criticizing Cronenberg. He is what he is, a wonderful and original filmmaker. But it is not his style that is verboten. What’s verboten is the beauty, the eroticism, the titillation, the wish-fulfillment, the forbidden joys of the T&A – you know, those things that make life worth living. This was never Cronenberg’s style.
The same “progressive” Hollywood that spent decades deriding Eisenhower’s 1950s as stuffy and puritanical is now a hundred times more stuffy and puritanical. The terrible fifties gave us Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Jane Russell, Gina Lollobrigida, Sophia Loren and the ballerina bra. Woke 2020 is like living in a convent. Never in the history of cinema has sex appeal been censored and banned. It is shameful and a violation of human nature.
Anyway, as a pro-objectification and T&A, let’s hope this era of woke McCarthyism will end soon.
The 70s and 80s were really great, and I have the Blurays to prove it.
