Dave Filoni is Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer for Star Wars

Dave Filoni, who oversaw “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Rebels,” “The Mandalorian,” “Ahsoka” and is the ruler of all things in a galaxy far far away, now has a new role as Lucasfilm: creative director. He still holds the title of executive vice president, which he received in 2020.

Filoni announced his title as creative director in an interview with Vanity Fair on Tuesday. He was already an executive producer on the entire live-action “Star Wars” series on Disney+ and was tapped to direct a film blending all the TV storylines, but he will now play a more involved role in the future of “Star Wars.” .”

“In the past, in many projects, I was involved, I saw it After he had already developed some good routes,” he said. “In this new role, we are open to virtually anything that happens. When we are planning the future of what we are currently doing, I am involved from the start-up phase.

“I don’t tell people what to do,” he added. “But I feel like I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I must be of great help across the galaxy here, as if I were part of a Jedi Council.

“Star Wars” is slowly planning a big return to the big screen and several more TV series are in the works. Next comes “Skeleton Crew,” a coming-of-age story created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, “The Acolyte,” a Leslye Headland thriller set in the distant past, and season 2 of “Andor.” On the big screen, films are in the works from James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Filoni is also “exploring a possible second season” of “Ahsoka,” which starred Rosario Dawson as the adult live-action version of the Jedi Ahsoka Tano.

“To really help filmmakers, it was very important for me to experience it firsthand,” Filoni said. “I can also give my perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more able to be helpful outside of just saying, “Well, Jedi are like that, and Sith are like that…”

Filoni has been a part of the “Star Wars” universe since making the “Clone Wars” film in 2008 and has worked closely with creator George Lucas for years. Kathleen Kennedy will remain president of Lucasfilm and Carrie Beck, head of development. Filoni “weighs in on the narrative level” while Kennedy oversees Lucasfilm and Beck brings other filmmakers on board.
