The man who was arrested for attacking Dave Chappelle onstage at the Hollywood Bowl has claimed he was inspired by actor Will Smith, who made a splash at the 2022 Oscars by slapping Chris Rock after he being offended at a joke made about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Isaiah Lee, 23, spoke to the New York Post during a jailhouse interview on Monday and lamented to the outlet that while he felt Rock was not in line with the ‘GI Jane’ joke what he had done at the expense of Pinkett Smith, speaking of hair loss from alopecia, ultimately Smith was “standing up for his wife”, and this action inspired him to do the same for those whom Lee felt Chappelle offended with his comment on LGBTQ communities and the homeless.

“I wanted him to know that next time he should first consider getting his material through people it might affect,” Lee said, according to The Post. “I wanted Dave Chappelle and people to know that these are things to be more sensitive to and not joke about.”

Lee insisted he felt “triggered” by Chappelle’s jokes, but added that his decision to rush onstage also had ulterior motives.

“I’m not going to lie…it was a bit of a weight hunt,” the rapper said before claiming, “In Hollywood, you know they say there’s no bad publicity. I rap about these things in my music and I knew it would get attention.”

Lee claims the act has since allowed him to go inside the Twin Towers Correctional Facility where he is housed and other inmates often ask if he was the man who attacked Chappelle.

“They come up to me and say, ‘Hey, are you the guy who went to see Dave Chappelle?'” Lee said, adding. engage security.”

Lee claimed that some of the comedian’s close friends also “hopped” him backstage.

“They were stomping all over and on my ribs and saying, ‘Are you stupid, kid? Why the hell did you do that?'” Lee recalled.

“I couldn’t say anything. They kept kicking me. For a few days I had trouble breathing. At one point someone spat on me, but I don’t know. not who.”

Lee further alleged that he does not suffer from any mental impairment.

“Just because you’re bipolar doesn’t mean you can’t…succeed,” Lee said.

Lee, an aspiring rapper, is being held on $30,000 bail. A judge rejected his bail reduction request on May 10 in the Chappelle case.

LA City Attorney Mike Feuer charged Lee with four counts of misdemeanor assault, possession of a weapon with the intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage space during a performance and the commission of an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer.

Lee pleaded not guilty at the expense.

Representatives for Smith and Chappelle did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
