Date Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte: When and where could the heavyweight title clash take place? What did promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn say?

An all-British blockbuster between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte is slated for early next year as the ‘Gypsy King’ makes his homecoming title defense.

Fury retained his WBC heavyweight crown with stunning style in October, once again destroying Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas.

UK rivals Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte set to face off next year

News of Fury’s next fight has been slow in coming and it looks like he’ll take on Whyte soon.

With Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua set to face each other again in March or April, Whyte is the perfect candidate to take on Fury in his next defense.

Whyte has not fought since sending Alexander Povetkin in their rematch in March.

He was scheduled to face former Fury rival Otto Wallin around Halloween, but the fight was called off due to Whyte’s shoulder injury.

Now, Wallin should be overlooked in favor of a tantalizing showdown between former friends Fury and Whyte.

Fury vs Whyte: when and where could it happen?

The fight was due to be confirmed by the WBC sanction board at their convention in Mexico City earlier this week.

However, an ongoing arbitration case with Whyte, who is from Brixton, means he cannot be legally called next and the two are still technically fight-free.

But although nothing has yet been confirmed during the fight, it is expected that the two Britons will face off next.

Promoter Eddie Hearn expects the fight to take place in “early” 2022 and it will almost certainly take place in London.

Fury vs Whyte: what did the rivals say?

Whyte posted a scathing response to Fury after the WBC heavyweight champion shared return photos of the pair together.

‘The Gypsy King’ uploaded several photos of the couple together from their days as training partners.

He captioned it: “Funny how people treat you when you’re good to them, the worlds have gone crazy.”

Whyte didn’t appreciate the message and immediately hit back.

He said, “Shut up your shit [and] sign the contract so I can break your teeth, stop b *******. “

Fury vs Whyte: What was said?

Promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn both had their say in ongoing disputes over how the money will be allocated for the fight.

Warren told talkSPORT: “I think Whyte is fighting for the division of the stock market and I don’t think he has anywhere to go with that. Facts are facts and he deposited his last scholarship for £ 300,000.

“Tyson is in charge. He’s the champion, he fought to get there, he didn’t have easy fights.

“He could have done that against Anthony Joshua, but he turned down four or five million dollars to fight Joshua.

“I look at this and I say, ‘Where is your ambition? Why are you in there? ‘

“What the WBC said was, let him go to arbitration, let the arbitrators decide whether he has a case or not. If he did, they will respect him.

“They said the split, which we can’t quite get right now, would be either 85/15 in favor of Tyson or 80/20.

“And that’s because of the handbags that were submitted, in his last fight, Whyte said he was awarded £ 300,000.”

Fury vs Whyte would be a thriller

Hearn said: “The purses are almost secondary to orderly combat. The interim champion can receive up to 45 percent of a share of the purse.

“And I believe the stock market should be at those kinds of levels. We’ve seen Top Rank talk about 20% at Whyte, which is outrageous.

“But I think something that should be left to the WBC, the issue is how much time we need to move forward, but we’re confident it’s going to be a fair decision for Whyte.

“I think it’s getting closer and we would like to do this fight early next year.

“I don’t think Tyson Fury is going to care who promotes the fight.

“That’s why I think a scholarship offer is probably the most likely scenario here, I don’t think Fury will care if Bob Arum promotes it.

“He’ll just be thinking of who’s putting in the most money, and if I’m a fighter in that scenario, I’d just be looking to see who’s putting in the most money for the fight.”

“But I have no problem with Dillian fighting on another promoter’s show, and we’ll be with him promoting him and behind him, but he wants to do it on a Matchroom show.”
