WAUKESHA, Wisconsin – Authorities determined on Monday whether the driver of an SUV that drove through a barricade and crashed into a Christmas parade in suburban Waukesha on Sunday, killing at least five people and injuring more than 40, could have fled another crime.

At least six children remain in critical condition after the car crashed into the parade, striking a group of high school students, a children’s dance group and the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies. The town’s livestream captured the stunning video of the crash, and Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said the death and injury toll could change as many people have reached hospital in the chaotic minutes following the tragedy.

The Wisconsin Children’s Hospital received 18 patients aged 3 to 16, including three siblings, doctors said.
