In an exclusive post-fight interview with Sportskeeda MMAshe says:

“I’m doing jiu-jitsu at the moment, so I wasn’t expecting that! Usually that’s what you expect in MMA for an amazing performance. No, I wasn’t expecting that. I was just expecting to come here and do my thing and have fun with this.”

After evaluating her own performance, Kelly had this to say:

“When she was putting me up against the cage, she was trying to keep me from making space, when you’re on closed guard. She kept my head position in the cage so I wouldn’t move my hips, took the position the first time, got the armbar, the crank, I’m surprised she didn’t tap on it When I saw her and Angela’s match, she just wouldn’t tap on the armband , I was like fine. She had really good posture, was really strong. I need to work on my finishing mechanics.”

Danielle Kelly and Mei Yamaguchi fight to a draw

After twelve uninterrupted minutes of wrestling, both fighters made a decision. In a submission grappling fight, if the fight does not end in a submission, the fight is declared a draw.

Despite numerous attempts from Kelly, an impressive display of defensive tactics from Mei Yamaguchi forced the fight to go the full distance, ending in a draw.

Throughout the game, the American attempted knee and toe caps. However, Yamaguchi’s veteran experience allowed him to successfully defend all submission attempts.

Although the fight ended in a draw, Kelly’s performance was nothing short of impressive. The 26-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom is hoping to get back into the circle at the earliest in hopes of recording a win on his next outing.
