Leeds United have agreed a £ 25million deal with Manchester United for winger Daniel James.
James will undergo a medical examination today before flying to Finland with the rest of the Wales squad for an international friendly.
Personal conditions at Leeds should not be a problem, with all sides hoping that a deal can be reached before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
The 23-year-old Welsh international winger has started two of United’s opening three Premier League games of the season, including Sunday’s 1-0 win over Wolves.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s imminent return to Old Trafford would impact James’ minutes, with Leeds, whom the forward almost joined before signing for United in 2019, seeking to bring him in.
Lingard and Diallo set to stay at Man Utd
As it stands, Jesse Lingard will remain at Manchester United and the club would be happy if the England international stays at the club.
If an offer should arrive in the last few hours, it will be discussed with Lingard and a collective decision will be taken.
Meanwhile, if he remains at Old Trafford, a contract extension has not been ruled out with his current contract concluded next summer.
Amad Diallo will remain at United in that window after suffering a thigh injury in training that will keep him out for six weeks.
The 19-year-old was available for loan as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the winger to gain experience away from the club.
Feyenoord was a big favorite for his signing, but Eredivisie team sporting director Frank Arnesen has confirmed he will not pursue a deal in this window.
The Ivorian international winger, who was also linked with a temporary move to Sheffield United, could move temporarily in the January transfer window.
Analysis: where next for James?
Sky Sports News’s Dharmesh Sheth on The Transfer Show:
“United appear to be ready to allow him to leave in that window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said so when asked the question after Sunday’s victory at Molineux, which James started.
“But with the arrival of Jadon Sancho and potentially Ronaldo, James will find his first-team opportunities quite limited.
“There has been a lot of talk about Leeds on social media and we know they have a long-standing interest. On the deadline day in February 2019 we had photos of James entering the reception in Leeds – it looked like it was done, but it failed, in the next transfer window he went to Man United.
“Leeds will be watching what Man United do and also what James wants to do. Definitely one to watch for the deadline.”
Ronaldo completes Man Utd medical exam
Cristiano Ronaldo has completed his Manchester United medical exam as he wraps up his return to his former club.
United announced on Friday that they have reached a deal with Juventus to re-sign the 36-year-old forward.
Personal terms were agreed to on a two-year contract, with required aspects of the deal to be finalized before Tuesday night’s deadline.
The Premier League club will pay around € 15million (£ 12.87million) plus an additional € 8million (£ 6.86million) for the Portuguese captain, who underwent a medical in Lisbon this week-end.
Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games in his first stint with United between 2003 and 2009.
