D.C.-area forecast: Scattered showers today with more rain chances through midweek

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: The worms are out and the grass is growing, as periods of rain and perhaps a few thunderstorms make for an unpleasant end to the weekend.

  • Today: Scattered showers and mostly cloudy. A few storms in the afternoon? Highs: mid 60s to near 70.
  • This evening: Cloudy with persistent showers, mist/fog. Lows: Upper 50s to 60s.
  • Tomorrow: A few flashes of sunshine, risk of showers/storms in the afternoon. Treble: Upper 70s to 80s.

An unstable weather situation continues today and will be with us for much of this week. We can expect scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms today, with additional rain chances through midweek as a frontal boundary persists nearby. Temperatures gradually rise over the next few days, peaking into the 80s and reaching near 90 on Wednesday.

Today (Sunday): Scattered showers this morning into the afternoon should tend to be heavier than yesterday, with about a quarter of an inch of rain likely in many locations. A few storms are also possible this afternoon. Highs are expected to reach the mid 60s to near 70 with mostly cloudy skies and a light southeast wind. Trust: medium-high

This evening: Showers should diminish as we move into the early evening. But one or two isolated lingering showers remain possible throughout the evening with some mist or fog overnight. Skies remain mostly cloudy with overnight lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Trust: medium-high

Tomorrow (Monday): There are still a lot of clouds, but the sun should shine through at times. One or two isolated showers are possible in the morning, with a risk of a few showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s will be quite warm and somewhat humid. Tomorrow evening: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers in the evening and thunderstorms possible. Showers may persist at times overnight with lows between 60 and 60 degrees. Confidence: average

A few showers and thunderstorms remain possible Tuesday and Tuesday evening. Tuesday’s highs will be in the 80s to partly sunny skies, followed by Tuesday evening’s lows in the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Prepare for warmer weather Wednesday while highs aim for the mid 80s to near 90 with partly sunny skies. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible, especially in the afternoon and evening. Trust: low
