Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expansion Launches 2023, Edgerunners Update Now Live

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its first major DLC. Developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed the Phantom Liberty expansion, which brings Keanu Reeves back as Johnny Silverhand. Set in a new area of sprawling Night City, the DLC is slated for release in 2023, on PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. Additionally, the studio announced an Edgerunners update, which adds a ton of new stuff inspired by the upcoming Netflix animated series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC

CD Projekt Red unveiled the Phantom Liberty DLC via a short teaser, shown during their Night City Wire live stream on Tuesday. The expansion marks Cyberpunk 2077’s first major content update, aside from the many patches that have been rolled out to fix the game, since its terrible launch on all platforms – PS4 and Xbox One, in particular. That said, this new DLC won’t be dropping on last-gen consoles, and the studio hasn’t mentioned any planned launches in the future.

The Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty trailer doesn’t reveal much, other than a voiceover that sees our main character, V, swearing allegiance to the “New United States of America.” There are some brief PC-captured footage of the rise of oppressive power in Night City, featuring dead government officials, fights with an electric whip, and a mysterious new figure who has the American flag pinned to his chest. The teaser ends with Silverhand’s voiceover warning us about the oath, calling it a “bad idea.” The Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion is said to have a “new plot style” and characters that span a neighborhood of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners Patch 1.6 Update

Additionally, CD Projekt Red has launched the Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.6 update, aiming to fix bugs and offering three new gigs to explore – Concrete Cage Trap, Desperate Measures, and Nasty Hangover. To celebrate the upcoming Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, – which hits Netflix on September 13 – the studio has added some exclusive in-game goodies, including a shotgun from the series and a legendary jacket. On Xbox Series S, players will finally be treated to an update to the performance mode, which targets 60fps while keeping the resolution somewhere in the “800-1080p range”.

The Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 update also adds a cross-progression system across all platforms, allowing you to run PC save files on consoles (or vice versa) and pick up where you left off. This is enabled via cloud saves and has some caveats if you live in regions where some of the game content is censored. Regional restrictions apply to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Japanese SKUs, all of which will have limited access to Cyberpunk 2077’s new cross-progression system.

For PC players, CD Projekt Red adds REDmod, an official tool to quickly create, manage and install mods. Cyberpunk 2077 still supports loading old mods from the archive folder, although it does not appear in the REDmod menu. According to the website, it will let you have fun with custom sound effects, animations, and scripts, in addition to general character modeling.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC will be released in 2023, on PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Windows PC. Edgerunners aka Patch 1.6 update is now live on all platforms including PS4 and last-gen Xbox One.
