The races for the major awards that are handed out at the end of the baseball season are heating up.

We’ll take a look at Cy Young’s runs in the American League and National League.

A lot of stock is invested in MVP races and rightly so, but that doesn’t mean Cy Young races aren’t full of big names dominating right now.

In fact, Cy Young’s two favorites currently reside in Florida, namely Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays and Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins.

MLB had a clever tweet, embedding the famous and hilarious “Florida Man” meme into the Cy Young watch, and showing them both top of the roster in their respective leagues.

It’s a clever way to incorporate the famous meme, but if you look at the stats of both pitchers, you’ll see that this isn’t your typical “Florida Man” meme, where a man does something outrageous.

These are two legit pitchers who are absolutely dominating right now.

Southpaw McClanahan is 8-3 in 15 starts and posted a microscopic 1.77 ERA.

Alcantara hasn’t been too shabby either.

He posted the same record as McClanahan and has a 1.95 ERA in 16 starts.

He also just pitched a full game against his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, at Busch Stadium.

Both pitchers are riding high right now and will more than likely be All-Stars this year.

But these two guys are absolutely dominating right now and currently residing in Florida.

So no, this is not a regular “Florida Man” meme.

It’s about two guys who get dirty on the mound and claim their rights in Cy Young races.
