Cuomo staff members present details of ‘toxic’ atmosphere around governor

Nearly a dozen current and former employees of Andrew Cuomo’s office have denounced an “intense work culture,” described as “brutal” and “traumatic,” amid allegations of inappropriate behavior against the governor of New York. York.

The report, released by the New York news publication Gothamist, detailed the accounts of several staff members to the Democratic governor, who has faced controversy in recent weeks over an investigation into nursing home deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic, and a separate investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.

“There is no right or wrong way. It’s the Cuomo way, ”said a former staff member. Gothamist on the allegedly difficult work environment at the governor’s offices in Albany, New York. “He wants people who will literally fall on the sword for him, and they all will.”

The governor defended himself amid explosive allegations from three former staff who alleged he was sexually inappropriate for them in separate incidents, while apologizing and saying it was not his intention to hurt the women behind the allegations. Her office has agreed to cooperate fully with the investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“Staff members blame each other for the way things are going,” a current staff member at the point of sale reportedly said. “No one ever tells the governor he’s wrong about anything.”

They added, “The people who are able to do it don’t … the rest of us have to deal with the fallout.”

Still, several staff members took issue with the negative accounts of the work culture at Mr. Cuomo’s offices in Albany, Gothamist noted, although some acknowledged that the environment may not be for everyone.

“I think everyone out there wants to do the best job they can,” one staff member reportedly said, adding, “Sometimes that work-life balance is sacrificed. I was definitely exhausted by the end of my stay there.

Mr Cuomo took advantage of skyrocketing approval rates across New York City during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, as the state was hit hard during the initial outbreak of the new virus in the United States .

But he has since been criticized for an apparent error in counting Covid-related deaths in state nursing homes, as he allegedly ordered hospitals to send infected patients to some area nursing facilities. The state attorney general is investigating the incident after a preliminary investigation found the data had been mismanaged. The FBI is also investigating the fake account.
