Cubs’ Willson Contreras day-to-day with hamstring injury – NBC Chicago

Cubs receive ‘good news’ on Contreras hamstring injury, originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Cubs have had some good news regarding starting receiver Willson Contreras and his hamstring injury.
Contreras, who came out early Saturday with hamstring strain, is day to day, the Cubs said Sunday.
“It’s actually something that’s not too much of a concern,” manager David Ross said. “We’ll give him a day or two off and see how he feels.
Contreras left Saturday’s loss to Arizona in the third inning, signaling for cover midway through Seiya Suzuki’s home plate appearance. The Cubs said he came out with hamstring strain, but are awaiting reports on the severity after the game.
Contreras, who is absent from the starting lineup on Sunday, missed extended time in 2017 and 2019 with strained right hamstrings, hence the Cubs’ caution. He was receiving treatment on Sunday.
The Cubs called up Triple-A Iowa receiver PJ Higgins on Sunday for depth, and he starts on Sunday. They also have a reliable veteran in Yan Gomes who is more than capable of handling the workload of a starter.
“I think it was good news compared to what we expected,” Ross said of Contreras.
