Cruz denounces the “arrogance” of the FBI to block his questions of January 6: “Have they actively solicited illegal behavior?

Senator Ted Cruz, R-TX, lambasted the FBI’s lack of transparency after a senior official dodged his questions Jan.6 during a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

“Many Americans fear that the federal government deliberately encouraged illegal and violent behavior on January 6.… Did federal agents or those who work for federal agents actively promote violent and criminal behavior on January 6? “

“Not to my knowledge, sir,” said Jill Sanborn, deputy executive director of the National Security branch of the FBI.

Fox News host Sean Hannity said Cruz’s interrogation should not have been dodged.

“Why couldn’t there be a general denial that it’s not who we [the FBI] are? ”he asked.“ Isn’t that the way we act? ”

“It should be very easy for the FBI to say no. No federal agent has been involved in violent crime,” Cruz said on “Hannity.” “No, no federal agent has actively instigated, encouraged others to commit violent crimes. If they were doing their job, these questions would be very easy to answer. They refused to answer them.”

The FBI refuses to be held responsible for a lot of things, Cruz said, adding that his agents were “arrogant.”

“Sadly, under Joe Biden, we saw an incredibly partisan Justice Department,” said Cruz. “And the Department of Justice and the FBI both have the arrogance of not being accountable to anyone, of being able to block.”

Cruz discussed the possibility of a theory promoted by some that there were FBI agents on Capitol Hill who encouraged the riots. One of the main figures in this theory is Ray Epps, who has denied being affiliated with the FBI or working for a law enforcement agency.

“Was Ray Epps a fed?” Cruz asked Sanborn during the Senate hearing.

“Sir, I can’t answer that question,” Sanborn replied.

“There have been a lot of videos online of Ray Epps… These are videos of him urging the crowd, saying, ‘We should go to the Capitol, but not just go to the Capitol, we have to go. “In other words, urge them to break the law,” Cruz told Hannity. “And he keeps saying, ‘On the Capitol, at the Capitol.’ And the whole crowd starts chanting, “Fed, Fed, Fed, Fed. This is a very confusing and disturbing video. The next day, January 6, there is a video of him speaking to one of the people in the room. this gathering, whispering in his ear. Five seconds later, this person pulls down barricades – the natural inference being that this individual urged him to break the law. “

“And so I asked the FBI … is Mr. Epps, an FBI agent, [he an] FBI informant? And she froze, refused to answer. We know the FBI put him on the list of people they wanted information about and then he magically disappeared. There has to be transparency and the Biden administration has to confess. Is this a politicized police operation targeting the president’s enemies? And have they actively encouraged and solicited illegal behavior? “
