Crowd of hundreds seen walking down the street, jumping on cars after overflowing North Avenue Beach


CHICAGO (CBS) – Chicago police on Tuesday night were trying to contain a crowd of hundreds of people that overflowed North Avenue Beach.

Video posted to the Citizen app showed large crowds gathering at the Shell station on North Avenue and LaSalle Boulevard, the BP station on LaSalle Drive and Clark Street, and at the intersection of North Avenue and Clark Street.

Some people were seen jumping on cars and at least one driver was seen taking off. Dozens if not hundreds of other people were seen walking down the middle of the street.

A large police presence was also spotted at each intersection.
