Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Manchester United’s starting XI to face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Portuguese sensation, 37, asked to leave the Red Devils earlier this summer in pursuit of Champions League football.
However, with no suitable options emerging, Ronaldo now looks set to stay at Old Trafford and came off the bench in his first Premier League loss to Brighton.
Having missed much of United’s pre-season, questions remain over the striker’s fitness, but manager Erik ten Hag has a crisis to resolve ahead of time.
With Anthony Martial injured, Ronaldo has been thrown into the starting XI as the Red Devils look to bounce back at the Brentford Community Stadium.
It comes after Ten Hag dropped the biggest hint yet that Ronaldo is now leaning towards another season with United.
When asked what it was like to deal with an unpredictable player like Ronaldo, the Dutchman replied: “That’s your guess. [that Ronaldo wishes to depart].
‘”That’s not what he’s telling me. So I’m looking after the players we have and we’re planning with him for this season and we have to get him into the squad so he has to get to the right fitness level so that he can do the job we expect of him.
