Cristiano Ronaldo scores a penalty, while Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Varane end the drought as the Red Devils find their way back to winning ways with a win over Brentford

Manchester United found their way back to winning ways by beating Brentford 3-0 in their last game at Old Trafford this season.

The Red Devils secured three league points for the first time since winning against Norwich City thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.

United opened the scoring just nine minutes into the clash as an unmarked Fernandes brought home Anthony Elanga’s cut-back. It’s Fernandes’ first goal in 11 outings.

Shortly after the Portugal international’s goal, the Bees had two equalizer attempts, with Christian Eriksen and Ivan Toney both trying to score.

Brentford were relieved to see Ronaldo’s strike just before half-time ruled out by VAR for offside. However, the bees quickly found themselves with a bigger mountain to climb after the reboot.

The Red Devils were awarded a penalty after Rico Henry tried to collect the ball in the box and collided with Ronaldo after being sent off by the Portuguese seconds earlier.

Sure enough, the United talisman seized the opportunity after Chris Kavanagh pointed from the spot, making no mistake as he sent a hard effort past David Raya from the spot.

United’s final goal of the night came from unlikely suspect Raphael Varane, netting his first-ever goal for the club and sealing victory after hanging on to Alex Telles’ corner.

Prior to the match, United fans had organized to stage another protest against Glazer family ownership, with calls to leave in the 73rd minute of the game.

However, while there were banners displaying their displeasure with the club’s management, there was no noticeable walkout from those who attended.

Juan Mata received a standing ovation as he made his way towards Phil Jones, as the Spaniard made what is likely to be his last appearance at Old Trafford, with the Spaniard expected to leave this summer.

Roy Keane has been asked if Man United’s clash against Brentford could also have been Ronaldo’s Red Devils swansong. However, the United legend was unconvinced.

“I wouldn’t have thought so,” he said. “I know there’s speculation, but I can’t imagine Ronaldo not being at Man United next year unless something drastically changes this summer.

“If you look at the goals he has, he’s a threat and any manager would want to work with him. Simple as that.”

United’s victory effectively cements their place in the European places as they sit in sixth place, while Brentford remain on 40 points, eight points from a fall.
