Man United finished the season in sixth place, collecting their lowest points tally in Premier League history [58]despite Ronaldo’s successful return to the club last summer.

The striker is the Champions League’s all-time top scorer but won’t be able to add to his numbers next season as United missed out on the top four.

Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford looked uncertain following the appointment of Erik ten Hag, but the Dutchman was quick to debunk any exit rumors insisting the 37-year-old would be a key figure in his side next season.

In a recent interview with the club, Ronaldo discussed various topics, including the arrival of Ten Hag.

“I know he’s done a fantastic job for Ajax and is an experienced coach, but we have to give him time and things have to change – the way he wants,” Ronaldo said.

“I hope we are successful of course. Because if you are successful, all of Manchester is going to be successful too. So I wish him the best. We are happy and excited, not only the players but also the supporters .

“I wish him the best and hope next year we will win trophies.”

Ronaldo also weighed in on his shock return to Old Trafford and explained his gratitude for another stint at the club, while appearing to commit his immediate future to the Red Devils.

“Of course I was happy to be back at a club that really elevated my career,” he said.

“So it was amazing. The feeling when I [came] back, it was nice to feel the supporters. Their happiness was great. I was – and still am – very happy to be here.

“I believe Manchester will be where they belong.

“As I said before, sometimes it takes time but I always believe in it. Records come naturally. I don’t follow records but records follow me. So that’s good.

“That’s always my motivation to keep going. Just work hard. I still love the passion for the game. And of course Manchester and my team-mates helped me all the way, so I have to appreciate all the people who help Cristiano.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also revealed he plans to help develop United’s young players as he believes they are the future – another indication of his commitment.

“The new generation will be the future of the club,” he added. “I am in favor of giving opportunities to the younger generation because they will be the future.

“But you also have to help them put it in the right place. Because the pressure is on to play in the Premier League, which is by far the toughest league in the world.

“And you have to give him time. Of course, you have to give them the opportunity and let them grow normally without pressure.

“But I think we should of course give opportunities to the younger generation.

“They understand that to be successful you have to sacrifice, hard work, work ethic, dedication.

“But of course, if the children ask me for advice, I will give my opinion and my advice because I want to help.”
